Common Borders

Contemporary cinema often touches upon the topics of identity and history. SEFF, as a transfrontier festival, is also oriented towards issues concerning the variety, identity, and customs of cultures and identities which have been bond by means of shared history and territory. Common Borders explore the questions and definitions connected with the term “border,” both in its literal and metaphorical meaning. The “border” is therefore understood in a broader context, not only as a line separating a certain area from its surroundings, but also as a space shared by different nationalities. This year we focus on exploring the topic of common history which connects cultures, as well as the boundaries of human memory. It takes up the issue of “grand” history, which is inseparable from personal experiences of film protagonists.
